A Brief Company History
We have been and will continue to be a supplier of saddles, horse tack, and all things "cowboy". Recently, we have expanded to include a variety of pet supplies, western-based fashion accessories, and home decor. We were born in the mountains of Missouri, but made Waco, Texas our home. As honorary (or did I mean ornery?) Texans, we underestimate humidity, overreact to snow, and under-appreciate authentic Mexican food. As a small company, our employees are our family (The nosey, opinionated kind, but hey, what's family for?). We enjoy trail rides & rodeos, the occasional Dr Pepper, and all things John Wayne. We think rhinestones are a cowgirl's best friend, and when in doubt- order steak.
In St. Louis, Missouri, a small company was created by the name of Ozark Leather Company in the 1930s. Originally founded to hand construct saddles, the company made a brief move to Arkansas, and then its final move to Waco, Texas in 1942. Since its origination, Ozark Leather has strived for quality workmanship and customer service, creating the brand name the “Saddle King of Texas”. The small “Saddle King” company quickly expanded into a large manufacturer of saddles and leading distributor for a variety of tack and leather products. By the 1960s, Ozark Leather had become the manufacturing supplier of equine equipment and products to the nationwide department stores Montgomery Ward.
“If you care enough to ride the very best…”
Ozark Leather Company's humble beginnings in downtown Waco, Tx.
Mr. James Hicks and Mr. Glenn vonRosenberg co-managed the Waco-based company up until the 1990s when Mr. vonRosenberg took over the company as a sole proprietor. Ozark Leather Company was selected in 1973 to design a commemorative saddle for the 150th anniversary of the Texas Rangers. Arturo Jimenez, Jr., an Ozark Leather Specialist, designed the saddle and hand tooled the Ranger Seal on each fender. As a western product based company, this is one of our greatest accomplishments and compliments in our craftsmanship and quality.
Today, the vonRosenberg family continues to uphold the quality standards and customer-oriented attention to detail that was instilled all those years ago in St. Louis. The company still operates within Waco and is one of the few family-owned businesses remaining in the industry today. Ozark Leather Company has progressed into a western tack industry leader and diversified our product offerings to better fulfill our customers' growing needs. We appreciate your continued support throughout the years and aim to provide the best western supplies and accessories for years to come.
